MACIE ROLLINS
I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Virginia Beach, VA, known for my explosive color, maximalist compositions, and experimental use of hand-tufted textiles. Rooted in design and experimentation, my practice merges tufting, painting, sculptural framing, and light to push traditional media into unfamiliar, playful territory.
My work reimagines the possibilities of fiber beyond traditional craft. Each work develops through combining elements in ways that challenge pre-established expectations. Fiber surfaces become graphic elements. Soft textiles become structure. Familiar materials are pushed into unfamiliar roles, resulting in work that feels fresh, strange, and alive.
My practice challenges expectations of fiber as purely decorative or utilitarian. Instead, I treat fiber as a sculptural material. My pieces operate as image, object, and structure at once, giving them both a multisensory visual impact and spatial presence. This approach lifts fiber from its traditional role as flooring into sculptural form, challenging expectations of function and redefining how the material can exist in space.
My work is meant to be bold, playful, and eye-catching—expanding the language of two-dimensional practice while challenging what materials are expected to do.
